PAL Wifi

PAL Wifi

PAL sometimes offers wifi in large airports in the Philippines (eg. Manila, Cebu).

They have different wifi networks though for the public terminal and their lounge.

To try to log on to the PAL wifi in the public terminal, try using your flight as the wifi password.

So if you’re on PR124, try using PR1234 as the password. This also may work with 2p which is the prefix for Airphil (a PAL subsidiary). So if your flight is 2p1234, try 2p1234 as the wifi password.

This used to work a year ago (2015), let me know in the comments if it doesn’t work anymore!

PR 1860 Bingo Fuel Over NAIA

PR 1860 Bingo Fuel Over NAIA

Sensationalist headline aside the Cebu-Manila flight I was on today (Sept 14) almost ran out of fuel while we were over NAIA.

Okay, still sensationalist. Let me recap.

My flight from Cebu to Manila, Philippine Airlines PR 1860,  was supposed to depart at 4:30PM. Instead we left at around 6:00pm. So far, vexing but normal, end of the day flights are usually delayed around this long.

We get to Manila around 6:45pm and we keep circling and circling. Apparently Manila air traffic had not cleared us to land owing to the congested air traffic situation. Finally the pilot announces that we had reached the minimum fuel level necessary for a safe diversion and as such we were diverting to Clark Airport in order to refuel.

So we basically ran out of fuel while we were circling Manila for almost an hour waiting to land.

Traffic over NAIA is getting to be just as bad as traffic on EDSA.

Free Wifi Hotspots at NAIA Terminal 2

Free Wifi Hotspots at NAIA Terminal 2

Wifi is considered a necessity these days, some going so far as arguing it’s a basic human right. (That would make it equal to other essential human requirements such as food and shelter.)

Getting a free wireless connection is pretty ubiquitous abroad (public parks in Switzerland have free wifi) but it’s still rare in Philippine public spaces.

I was pleasantly surprised then that free wifi does exist at Manila’s airport (well, NAIA Terminal 2 at least) and even more shocking, it works pretty well.
